Research Interests

  • Fate and impact of trace elements (Tl, As, Cu, Pb, Cd, Zn, ..) and phosphorus (P) in natural and engineered systems (soils, water resources, aquifers, water treatment)
  • Formation and reactivity of Fe phases and effects on contaminant and nutrient dynamics
  • Influence of variable redox conditions on trace element behavior
  • Element speciation by synchrotron-based X-ray spectroscopies

Current Research Projects

  • Trace element dynamics in periodically waterlogged soils (starting 2025)
  • T-Rox: Trace element release from excavated rocks (starting 2025, co-PI David Janssen)
  • P-TRAP: Diffuse phosphorus inputs into surface waters: Use of iron solids for P trapping.
