About Me
Postdoctoral researcher
I am in charge of the coordination of the project ARTS (Aquifer's Reaction to Thermal Storage). The project aims at understanding the environmental implications of subsurface energy storage on the groundwater and the subsoil. Special focus lies on the changes in groundwater chemistry, microbiology, and groundwater fauna resulting from the seasonal temperature variations linked to the operation of borehole thermal energy storage facilities (BTES). The project is supported by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE) and several cantonal authorities, and it is developed in collaboration with Empa.
My main scientific tasks include the numerical modelling of the aquifer's response to temperature changes induced by the operation of thermal energy storage facilities. This will allow both assessing their optimal operation conditions in order to minimize their environmental impact, and predicting the aquifer's response to future operation scenarios.
