About Me
My research focuses on determining the nutritional requirements of fish cell lines, specifically using them as our cell-based model of choice. Initially, I aimed to advance cell proliferation under serum-free conditions by developing a tailor-made serum-free medium for routine culturing of the RTgill-W1 cell line. Subsequently, this research laid the foundations for an upcoming in-depth analysis of the reasons for ceased cell proliferation, finally upon chemical exposure.
During my research, I successfully developed a short-term cell proliferation assay using a 96-well plate format. This assay enabled the simultaneous assessment of multiple cellular endpoints. To further maximize research on the cellular proliferation of adherent cells, I utilized image-based methods, as they provided a comprehensive analysis of cell status and morphology. This pursuit led me to develop a keen interest in the application of high-throughput morphological profiling in the environmental toxicology field, which I believe can be complementary to for the further development of alternatives to animal testing in ecotoxicology.
Working at EAWAG gave me an incredible opportunity to employ my past knowledge in biochemistry to problem solving at the interface of chemistry, biology and toxicology.
