About Me
My research background is in theoretical evolutionary biology, with a focus on population genetics and quantitative genetics. I completed my PhD at the University of Manchester, where I studied the evolution of social behaviours. During my doctoral studies, I also collaborated on an interdisciplinary project investigating the Notch signalling pathway in Drosophila melanogaster, which sparked my interest in collaborative research between theoretical and empirical biologists.
Following my PhD, I held postdoctoral positions at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) and ETH Zürich. At ISTA, I worked on projects related to evolutionary computation and developed simulation tools for estimating biodiversity. Later, at ETH Zürich, I focused on modelling the evolution of drug resistance in various pathogens, including bacteria and helminths. This work involved close collaboration with empirical research groups and led to the development of models that provide insights into the dynamics of drug resistance.
In 2024, I was awarded a Starting Grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation, which enabled me to establish my own research group at ETH Zürich. My current research continues to explore the evolution of drug resistance, with a particular emphasis on integrating theoretical models with empirical data. I am committed to fostering interdisciplinary collaborations and incorporating new technologies, such as machine learning, into my research program.
Beyond my core research, I am passionate about science education and public engagement. I believe it's crucial to bridge the gap between scientific research and public understanding, particularly on critical issues like drug resistance. I have extensive experience in teaching and outreach, including developing educational games and managing a seminar series for high school students. I co-founded a non-governmental organisation eduB, that tries to bridge the gap between high school students and contemporary biology, focusing on experimental learning and evolutionary connections.
