About Me

Research interests

I am a river ecologist with special interests in disturbance and rehabilitation ecology. I am particularly fascinated by riverine dynamics and the amazing adaptations of aquatic organisms to cope with these environmental variations.

My work tackles two major questions:

  1. Which factors govern resistance and resilience of aquatic communities towards environmental change (e.g. natural disturbances, anthropogenic impact)?
  2. How can practical river management ensure or re-initiate the dynamics that allow self-sustaining aquatic communities to develop?

Collaborative learning for hydropeaking mitigation
Do fish and invertebrates like the Rolling Stones?
How does the fish community change in a widening? And how does the riparian vegetation react after deculverting?
We use Switzerland’s unique record of historical maps for studying landscape change over the past 150 years.
