Dr. Karen Bussmann-Charran

Department Aquatic Ecology

About Me

I am an aquatic ecologist with strong ties to applied questions. As specialist for aquatic biodiversity in the Translational Centre for Biodiversity Conservation (see below), I work towards bridging the gap between science and practice in nature conservation. To achieve this, I coordinate teams composed of scientists and practitioners and synthesize scientific and applied knowledge in practice-relevant formats (best practices, fact sheets, framework papers...). The envisioned outcomes can be used directly by decision-makers and practitioners to inform themselves about hot topics is aquatic biodiversity conservation. My background is in invasive species ecology and management, fish disease diagnostics and behavioural ecology. Throughout my career I fostered productive relations to stakeholders to learn from their practical insights and creating knowledge relevant in practice.
