Focalpoints
The overarching goal of my research is to increase scientific knowledge for the application of sustainable urban excreta and wastewater management technologies. As an engineering scientist focused in low-income countries, I always consider how fundamental research can translate into real-life implementations. To achieve this, I strive to employ a system-based approach to all areas of treatment including business models, value-chain management, and logistics, by developing knowledge of system components and how they integrate into complete systems. My philosophy throughout my research career has been to develop engineering approaches that are relevant for global applications. My background encompassing interdisciplinary degrees in engineering, science and mathematics, and wide-ranging international experiences, has provided me with a global perspective, and equipped me to research and apply environmental engineering fundamentals in complex, interdisciplinary situations.
