About Me
I am an environmental scientist working as research technician at the department of Aquatic Ecology at Eawag. I am fascinated by the diversity of algae and aquatic invertebrates in aquatic ecosystems and how they are used as biological indicators in ecosystem management. My other interest lies on understanding the impacts of invasive species on local ecosystems.
I am responsible for the microscopy lab, the long-term plankton monitoring project of lake Greifen and for running the protist collection. I am involved in experimental studies with amphipods, quagga mussels and protists, field work and other projects with aquatic invertebrates.
Furthermore, I supervise students from ETH and Uni Zürich and train apprentices as biology lab technicians.
I have a strong interest in taxonomy. By teaching the “identification course freshwater algae and aquatic microinvertebrates” I try to bring my fascination for the diversity of aquatic invertebrates and freshwater algae groups in Switzerland closer to students. This ETH course (number 701-1437-02L) is run together with the Teaching Team.
