2013 Super Typhoon Haiyan overwash deposits
Sediment deposited during tsunamis and storm surges can serve to extend records of hazards beyond the historical time frame. One major obstacle is the preservation of these paleo overwash deposits. Often, weathering and erosion takes over preservation and the sedimentary records may degrade over time, partially preserved, or entirely removed.
This project aims
- to assess post-depositional changes and preservation potential of the 2013 Super Typhoon Haiyan overwash deposits in the Philippines.
- to explore other novel methods to investigate overwash deposits when traditional textural properties of sediments are obscured by post-depositional processes.
