Radioactivity in sediments of Lake Biel - Eawag results have been published

In the summer 2013, Eawag and the Swiss Federal Institute for NBC-Protection (LABORATORY SPIEZ) have withdrawn sediment cores from Lake Biel and examined the sediment layers for radioactivity.

The study confirms the existence of a Cs-137 peak, which can be assigned to the charges published from 1999 on the nuclear power station Muehleberg. According to the Federal Office of Public Health FOPH the Cs-137 in the sediments of Lake Biel do not pose any risks to health.
