Sending Dreissena (quagga and zebra mussels) by post
It is possible to send mussels by post. In order for us to identify the mussels, they must remain clearly recognisable, which means they must not be damaged during transport. To do so, place the mussels in a pressure-resistant, sealable container (e.g. a plastic tube, a small box, etc.) and close the lid tightly. If necessary, you can fill the container with 70% ethanol (or, if unavailable, with water) to better preserve the mussels. Please do not send any mussels in an envelope alone, as they will break and can no longer be identified.
Enclose a legible note with your name, address, telephone number and, if available, your e-mail address. The location where the mussels were found is important. If possible, send us the exact coordinates of the location. The easiest way to determine the coordinates is to take a picture of the location while GPS location is activated on your mobile phone. The coordinates are then stored in the image information.
Please complete the observation sheet [PDF] and email it to us at quagga@cluttereawag.ch. You are also welcome to send us photos of the location.
