About Me

Dr. Tural Aliyev, an urban planner and social scientist, currently serves as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology - Eawag (ETH domain). Additionally, he is an associated researcher at the Gouvernance de l’Environnement et de Développement Territorial (GEDT) of the University of Geneva.

At Eawag, the interdisciplinary group he is part of, Policy Analysis and Environmental Governance (PEGO), forms a connection between Eawag and the University of Bern. Dr. Tural Aliyev is actively involved at Eawag in the GreenCityNet project. The project's objective is to establish social-ecological networks (SEN) that enhance biodiversity within urban green areas (UGA).

Prior to joining Eawag, Dr. Tural Aliyev obtained his Ph.D. degree from the Social Science Faculty, specializing in Urban and Regional Planning at the Institute for Environmental Sciences of the University of Geneva. This doctoral research was supported by the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships program, administered by the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI).

During his Ph.D. studies, Dr. Tural Aliyev gained valuable experience working at the Center of Excellence for Smart Sustainable Cities and Sustainable Urban Development. This center is a collaborative initiative between the University of Geneva and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). Dr. Aliyev also held a leadership role as a lead specialist and contributed to the Green City project, led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). His involvement focused on territorial analysis to implement nature-based solutions and green infrastructure within the city.

Besides, Dr. Tural Aliyev is a board member of Eawag Postdoctoral Scientists Association (EPSA), embodies the mission of fostering scientific collaboration, enhancing professional development and integrating newcomers within the vibrant postdoctoral community at Eawag.
