Über mich
As a postdoctoral researcher in the Data & Information group of Dr. Andreas Frömelt, my goal is to provide guidance towards a low-N2O-emission operation and design of full-scale biological wastewater treatment plants. To reach this goal, I combine data mining, hypothesis testing at pilot-scale/full-scale and model development.
I hold a MS (2018) and PhD (2023) in Bio-science Engineering: Environmental Sciences and Technology at Ghent University, Belgium. During my PhD, I focused on the aeration efficiency and design considerations of aerobic granular sludge (AGS) reactors for urban wastewater treatment and collaborated with TUDelft and Royal HaskoningDHV from the Netherlands. My PhD resulted in the first 1-D AGS biofilm model including aeration dynamics during batch operation, an AGS design protocol to be used as a benchmark tool to select the optimal case-specific WWTP design and first insights in how to operate continuous AGS reactors to increase its capacity.
As a side project during my bachelor studies, I was selected to participate in the 'Students for Sustainable Agriculture' exchange programme in Rwanda. Later, during my PhD, I had the opportunity to supervise a Masters student who conducted a field study on the performance analysis and net-greenhouse gas effect of household-digesters in Rwanda. I completed this research through data analysis and modelling. This work now contributes to the operations and subsidies of Vétérinaires Sans Frontières - Dierenartsen Zonder Grenzen Belgium and informs policy initiatives in Rwanda.
