Über mich
After pursuing my BSc and MSc in Environmental Engineering, I embarked on my PhD journey in October 2023, under the supervision of by Dr. Nicolas Derlon and Prof. Eberhard Morgenroth. Alongside my research on activated sludge and wastewater treatment, I am also interested in digital transformation in the water sector and navigating the joys (and occasional headaches) of data management in environmental research.
PhD Project
My PhD research focuses on advancing the development of Densified Activated Sludge (DAS) in Sequencing Batch Reactors (SBRs) for sustainable municipal wastewater treatment. My work spans from fundamental mechanisms to practical applications, integrating both experimental and modeling approaches. Specifically, I study (1) how the composition of DAS impacts settleability, microbial activity, and system design; (2) explore aeration strategies to optimize the system for enhanced total nitrogen removal while minimizing greenhouse gas emissions; (3) examine the practical implementation of DAS-SBRs under various scenarios. The research aims at providing scientific insights on intensified biological treatment processes and supporting technological innovation.
